On 1 June 2018, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), met with H.E. Primež Šeligo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia to the Russian Federation, who is completing his diplomatic mission in Russia.

They were joined at the meeting, which took place at the DECR premises, by Archpriest Sergy Zvonarev, DECR secretary for far abroad countries, and Ms Gabi Matkovič, minister-counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia to the Russian Federation.

Metropolitan Hilarion warmly welcomed the guests at the Synodal department responsible for international contacts of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Discussed was the preparation for the annual memorial ceremony on Vršič pass, which will take place in the end of July and be timed to the 98th anniversary of the foundation of the Russian chapel dedicated to the Holy Prince Vladimir Equal-to-the-Apostles. The chapel was built to commemorate Russian soldiers who had died there during World War I.

DECR chairman thanked the Ambassador of Slovenia for fruitful and actively developing cooperation between the Embassy and the Church and wished him God’s aid and success at his new place of employment.
