On September 26, 2020, supporters of “the Orthodox Church of Ukraine” captured by raiding the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s church of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky at the Belovezhi village, Chernigov region.

The raiding group had taken possession of the church door lock taking it away from construction workers who were finishing the works by the consecration of the alter of the restored church planned to take place on September 27.

It is known that a crew from Channel 5 was present during the raid. Present was also Nikolay Velichkovich, Ukrainian Supreme Rada member from Poroshenko’s European Solidarity party.

Metropolitan Clement of Nezin and Priluki noted that the raid to capture the old church restored by the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was carried out as part of the pre-election campaign launched by the political forces who support the “OCU” project. The hierarch also underlined that in this situation, the festivities devoted to the consecration of the church were “only put off” at the request of villagers.
