On July 27, 2021, the eve of the 1033rd anniversary of the Baptism of Rus’ and commemoration day of the Holy Prince Vladimir Equal-to-the-Apostles, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine celebrated a thanksgiving at the monument to the Baptizer of Rus’ on St. Vladimir Hill in Kiev.

Praying at the service were representatives of Local Orthodox Churches of Antioch, Serbia, the Czech Lands and Slovakia; bishops and clerics from all dioceses of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, tens of thousands of Orthodox Christians from the whole Ukraine, as well as pilgrims from Montenegro, Georgia, Poland, and other countries.

Liturgical hymns were sung by the choir of the Kiev Theological Academy and Seminary conducted by Archimandrite Roman (Podlubniak).
Offered up to God were thanksgiving for all His mercies bestowed on the land of Ukraine and petitions for keeping the Church from schisms and troubles, for the multiplication of love, maintenance of peace and for the well-being of the Ukrainian state.

After the service, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry addressed greetings and homily to all those present.

“I wholeheartedly congratulate you on the Day of the Baptism of Rus’ – the day of spiritual birth of our nation. May God help us through the prayers of St. Vladimir. May the Lord keep us all through the prayers of His Most Holy Mother,” said the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Clergymen and lay people went on the Procession with the Cross carrying miraculous icons of the Most Holy Mother of God and relics of the Holy Prince Vladimir to the Kiev Laura of the Caves.
