Archbishop Of Vladikavkaz and Alana Leonid visits Armenia

On 27th July 2021 the deputy chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate and administrator of the Patriarchal deanery of the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Armenia the archbishop of Vladikavkaz and Alana Leonid went on a working visit to Armenia. At the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin archbishop Leonid was received by the Catholicos and supreme head of the Armenian Apostolic Church Karekin II.

On the same day a meeting was held at the government of Armenia between archbishop Leonid and the Armenian deputy prime minister Mher Grigoryan. The meeting was attended by the consular official of the Russian embassy in Armenia Alexei Sinegubov.

Later archbishop Leonid viewed a parcel of land in the centre of Yerevan which had been earmarked for the construction upon it of a cathedral complex of the Russian Orthodox Church.

At the Russian embassy there were talks between the archbishop of Vladikavkaz and Alana Leonid and the Russian ambassador to Armenia Sergei Kopyrkin. The talks were also attended by the consular official Alexei Sinegubov During the meetings there were discussed issues concerning the interests of the Russian Orthodox Church, including that of her legal status in Armenia.

Archbishop Leonid’s trip was rounded off by a visit to the Church of the Protecting Veil and the Dormition Church of the metochion of the convent in Yerevan.
