On October 23, 2021, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, who is in Great Britain with a blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, visited Oxford.

In the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, he was welcomed by the rector of the church and dean of the diocesan district of Central Anglia, Archpriest Stephen Platt.

The same day, Metropolitan Hilarion met called on Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia (Patriarchate of Constantinople), who had been his academic mentor during his studies at the University of Oxford (1993-1995). The DECR chairman informed the hierarch about the development of theological science and theological education in the Russian Church.

In remembrance of the meeting, Metropolitan Hilarion presented Metropolitan Kallistos the English version of his book The Beginning of the Gospel ­the first volume of the six-volume study on “Jesus Christ. The Life and Teaching”. The book was published by St Vladimir’s Seminary in New York. In his turn, Metropolitan Kallistos presented his guest for the Russian Church with the English version of Chronicles of the St. Seraphim-Diveyevo Monastery with his preface.
