DECR representative attends the Seventh International Religious and Peace Forum

On October 26, 2021, the Seventh International Religion and Peace Forum opened at the Church Councils Hall of the Church of Christ the Saviour on the theme “Interreligious and Inter-Cultural Dialogue in Contemporary World. The event is organized by the Christian Peace Union and the National Policy and Interregional Relations Department of the Moscow Government with the participation of the National Research Nuclear University MEPHi.

The conference held on October 26-27 opened with the reading out of messages of greetings from religious, public and state organizations and academic structures.

This was followed by a plenary session, after which panel discussions were held on interreligious dialogue in the situation of pandemic, opposing radicalism and social service.

The event is attended by representatives of state bodies and parliaments structures, Russian and foreign experts, public and religious figures from Russia, Syria, Lebanon, Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria, Armenia, France, Great Britain and other countries.

Among the key-speakers were President of the Christian Peace Union Alexey Cherkezov, General Secretary of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy Maximos Harakopoulos, chairman of the State Duma committee for developing civic society and for public and religious associations S. Gavrilov, Minister of Education of the Arab Republic of Syria Darem Tabbaa, First Deputy Minister of Education A. Bugaev, chief adviser of the department for cooperation with religious organizations of the Presidential Directorate for Domestic Policy A. Tretyakov, head of the Moscow department for national policy and inter-regional relations V. Suchkov, Mufti of the Muslim Assembly in Russia Albir Krganov, MEPHi acting rector V. Shevchenko, Vicar of the Armenian Apostolic Church diocese of Damascus Archbishop Armash (Nalbadian), vice-chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s synodal mission department Hegumen Serapion (Mit’ko), head of the office for work with state structures of the Moscow Patriarchate’s synodal department for the Church’s relations with society and mass media P. Lebedev, head of the Federation of Jewish Communities’ department for cooperation with the Armed Forces, Emergency Ministry and Law-Enforcement Rabbi Aron Gurevich and others.

With a blessing of the chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, the forum was addressed by Deacon Iliya Kashitsyn, DECR secretariat for interreligious relations. The DECR representative stressed the special importance of interreligious and inter-ethnic dialogue in educating the youth who are especially prone to the threat of radical propaganda. Mentioning the tripartite meeting of the religious leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, which took place on October 13, 2021, at the St. Daniel Monastery, the speaker noted that Russia and her capital city of Moscow are important centres of interreligious and inter-ethnic dialogue and the Russian model of ethno-religious relations can serve as a vivid example for others.
