Solemnities devoted to the 144th anniversary of the liberation of Plevna fr om the Ottoman domination began in Bulgaria on December 9, 2021 with the laying of flowers at the common grave of the Russian soldiers of the 16th infantry division at Szejnowo and the office for the dead defenders of Shipka Pass was held at the crypt of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ wh ere their remains lie in rest.
Among the participants in the solemnities were Mr. F. S. Voskresensky, the Russian Federation Counsellor-Minister in Bulgaria, representatives of the Russian embassy, Mr. Rumen Petkov, a Bulgarian public figure; Archpriest Yevgeny Pavelchuk, secretary of the Sofia Representation of the Moscow Patriarchate; and a delegation of the Russian Historical Society. The memorial service was led by Archimandrite Bogoslov (Dimitrov), Protosynkellos of the Metropolis of Stara Zagora of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
On December 10, in Pleven, the clergy of the Metropolis of Pleven and Archpriest Yevgeny Pavelchuk said the prayer for the dead soldiers who liberated the city, at the burial church of the Russian soldiers.
Present at the requiem service were Mayor of Pleven George Spartanski, the Russian Federation ambassador Ms. Eleonora Mitrofanova, Byelorussian ambassador Alexander Lukashevich, ambassador of the Republic of Moldova Anatoly Sebuk, staff members of the Russian Federation embassy in Bulgaria, Bulgarian public figure Rumen Petkov, a delegation of the Russian Historical Society, representatives of public organizations and numerous local people.
Later that day, an academic forum devoted to the 144th anniversary of the Plevna epic took place at the regional military history museum in Pleven.
