His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, congratulated the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, on the 20th anniversary of his episcopal consecration.

The Most Reverend Hilarion, Metropolitan of Volokolamsk

Chairman Department for External Church Relations, Moscow Patriarchate

Permanent member of the Holy Synod, Russian Orthodox Church

Your Eminence,

Please accept my cordial congratulations on the 20th anniversary of your episcopal consecration.

Wishing to dedicate your life to the service of One of the Trinity, unoriginate Son Who illuminates those born on the earth with the unfading light and radiance of the Three-sun Divinity (canon of Tone I of the Midnight Office on Sunday morning), you took monastic vows and were ordained.

Working in the Vineyard of Christ, you have successfully combined pastoral activity and academic work. The Saviour noticed your efforts and placed you among the apostolic successors so that you could preach His name and surpassing glory (canon of Tone I on the Thursday morning).

I appreciate your service as chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate for your high professionalism, which you show in the present times difficult for the unity of Holy Orthodoxy. I would like to make a special mention of your missionary efforts in the media space, in particular, your program “The Church and the World”, where in an intelligible form you bear witness to the transforming power of the faith and immutable traditional moral values and explain the position taken by the Russian Orthodox Church on a wide range of issues.

Through the intercession of our Most Holy Queen the Mother of God enriching us with heavenly and divine blessings (canon of Tone 5 at the Friday Compline), may the Lord send you the fullness of resources and His generous help in your further archpastoral ministry and in performing manifold tasks entrusted to you.

With love in Christ,

+ KIRILL

PATRIARCH OF MOSCOW AND ALL RUSSIA
