On January 3, 2022, with a blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, the head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, Archimandrite Alexander (Elisov) presided over the Divine Liturgy at the place of the Nativity of the Lord Jesus Christ in Bethlehem.

All the representatives of the Russian clergy serving in the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission and its methochia concelebrated.

Praying at the Liturgy were Sister Ekaterina (Chernysheva), mother superior of the Gorneye Convent in Ein Karem. with sisters and numerous Russian-speaking worshippers.

The divine worship at the Bethlehem Cave was celebrated in Church Slavonic, Greek and Arabic. The hymns were sung by the choir of the Gorneye convent sisters.

After the service, the clergy of the Mission, the sisters of the Gorneye convent and worshippers were received by the Locum Tenens of the Patriarch of Jerusalem in Bethlehem, Metropolitan Benedictos of Diocaesarea, in the refectory chambers of the Bethlehem Church of the Nativity of Christ. Archimandrite Alexander congratulated His Eminence Benedictos on the Nativity of Christ and presented him with a festive gift, while the sisters sang Nativity songs, reports the press-service of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission.
