The supporters of the schismatic ‘Orthodox Church in Ukraine’ have illegally re-registered the religious community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the village of Pereniatyn and seized the Holy Trinity church, which was sealed up last week. Vsevolod Pekarsky, head of the Dubno military administration, handed the keys to the church doors to the raiders.

The decision to transfer the religious community in Pereniatyn was taken at the village meeting held without the participation of the rector and parishioners. Not only the locals, but also former residents of the village living elsewhere voted for the change of jurisdiction. The minutes of the meeting were signed by minors. The new statute was approved by the chairman of the regional military administration, Vitaly Koval.

On May 10, 2022, the schismatics held their ‘service’ in the church building seized from the canonical Church.

Parishioners of the Holy Trinity church anticipated the developments and began to pray in the chapel, ‘Orthodox Life’ reports with reference to the diocesan website.

‘The situation in the village is very tense. I had to take my family away from the village because of the aggression, said the Rev. Alexander Gnes, rector of the Orthodox parish. I hope that as the OCU people had captured our church building, they would stop attacking the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and we will be able to pray. After all, the right to free worship is stipulated in the Constitution of Ukraine.” Fr. Alexander called on all branches of power to ensure the realization of this right of the canonical Church’s faithful.
