Patriarch of Jerusalem officiates at festivities marking the 175th anniversary of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem

On June 13, 2022, the Day of the Holy Spirit, the traditional annual feast marking the anniversary of the Russian Church presence in the Holy Land, His Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine, presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Trinity Cathedral of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem.

Concelebrating with His Beatitude were Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina; Metropolitan Joachim of Helenopolis; Archimandrite Alexander (Yelisov), head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem; Archimandrite Roman (Krasovsky), head of the ROCOR Ecclesiastical Mission; Archimandrite Ioann (Meiu), deputy representative of the Romanian Orthodox Church; clergymen of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission and its metochions in the Holy Land; the Arabic speaking clerics of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem; and pilgrims in holy orders.

Praying at the Divine Liturgy were H.E. Anatoly Viktorov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the State of Israel; H.E. Yevgeny Vorobiev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the State of Israel; members of the Russian diplomatic corps, and clerics of Christian Churches in Jerusalem.

After the dismissal, His Beatitude addressed the head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission and the worshippers with the words of greeting and support. He wished Archimandrite Alexander and all clerics of the Mission to continue their blessed ministry in the Holy City of Jerusalem performed for the advancement of unity between the Orthodox Churches of Russia and Jerusalem and for spiritual benefit of dozens of thousands of Russian pilgrims coming to the Holy Land every year.

His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos’s gift to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill was silver altar candlesticks; Archimandrite Alexander was presented with an icon of the Resurrection of Christ.

Speaking in response, the head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission thanked His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine for his insightful and heartfelt words. As a token of the celebration at the Russian church, he presented the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem with an icon of the Holy Trinity with a particle of the Oak of Mamre.

Also, Archimandrite Alexander read out the congratulatory message of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to all the participants in the festivities marking the 175th anniversary of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem.

Ambassador Anatoly D. Viktorov was honoured with the blessed Patriarchal charter “in consideration of his assistance rendered to the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem.”

Press service of the Mission reports that after the Divine service the Procession with the Cross with participation of many people proceeded fr om the Trinity Cathedral to St. Sergius Metochion in Jerusalem, wh ere a festive event took place.
