DECR Chairman meets with Archbishop of Canterbury

On September 7, 2022, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, who is in Germany as head of the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church to the General Assembly of the World Council of Churches, met with the head of the Church of England, Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury.

Among those who accompanied the Archbishop of Canterbury were Bishop Robert Innes of Gibraltar and in Europe and Rev. Jeremy Morris, an adviser to the Archbishop on external relations.

Participating in the meeting from the side of the Russian Orthodox Church were Hieromonk Stephen (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, and Philipp Champion, a member of the DECR staff.

The conversation dealt with a wide range of topics of mutual concern.
