On December 12, 2022, a water-blessing prayer service with the akathistos hymn to the Holy Great Martyr James the Persian was celebrated before an icon and the shrine with a particle of his precious relics in the church of St. Ignatius the God-Bearer at the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus.

The icon and the relics were presented to the church on December 11 as a gift from representatives of the Russian Armed Forces. Archimandrite Philip (Vasiltsev), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ to the Antiochian Patriarchal See, wholeheartedly thanked them for this precious gift and assured them that prayers for Russian soldiers who defend their country would always be said at the Representation.

The next day, Archimandrite Philip celebrated a prayer service with the akathistos hymn before the Great Martyr James’ icon and shrine with his relics, Damascus Russian Orthodox Church representation reports.

Praying at the church was Bishop Moses of Larissa, a vicar of His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East. During the service, the archpastor read an excerpt from the Holy Gospel.
