On February 9, 2023, the Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk met in Buenos-Aires with the Chairman of the Episcopal Conference of Argentina, Bishop Oscar Vicente Ojea Quintana.

Metropolitan Anthony thanked the Catholic prelate for the possibility to meet and shared his impressions from his participation in the round-table conference, which took place in the Argentinian capital on the theme ‘The Russian Orthodox Church and compatriots: The experience of cooperation in Latin American countries’. During the meeting, the DECR chairman also spoke about the work of the synodal department headed by him. They noted the historic nature of relationships between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church and pointed to its important page - the meeting between the Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Pope Francis of Rome, which took place in February 2016 in Cuba.

Present at the meeting were Bishop Leonid of Argentina and South America, Archpriest Sergiy Yurin, secretary of the Diocese of Argentina and South America; as well as members of the Moscow church delegation including Archpriest Nikolay Lishchenyuk, DECR vice-chairman; Archpriest Sergiy Zvonarev, DECR secretary for the affairs of the diaspora; and Rev. Alexander Yershov, assistant to the DECR Chairman.

In conclusion of the meeting, Metropolitan Anthony presented the chairman of the Episcopal Conference of Argentina with a token of the meeting.
