“Attempts at forceful ousting of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the Kiev Lavra of the Caves keep going,” Mr. Vladimir R. Legoida, chairman of the Synodal Department for Church’s Relations with Society and Mass Media, wrote in his Telegram channel.

“Earlier, law enforcement agents in the country (though the word ‘law’ has long become non-compliant with their actions) obstructed delivery of bread to the monks cloistered in the monastery, but now police that must enforce the law is blocking access to storage for food,” he noted.

Also, not only seminary students and novices, but also His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kiev and All Ukraine and Metropolitan Anthony of Borispol and Brovary, chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, have been denied access to the Lavra.

“These illegal acts taken contrary to law by police and the leadership of the Reserve, are obviously provoking violent clashes between the faithful and those trying to deprive them of the monastery,” Mr. Legoida underscored and added:

“As to an attempt to doom the monks to starvation, only foreign invaders tried to starve Kiev and the Lavra into surrender. How did it come about that the Ukrainian authorities are applying the same brutal aggressive methods to the largest religious community in the country – the Ukrainian Orthodox Church?”

Earlier Mr. Legoida said that the court ruling on forceful evicting the monks from the Kiev Lavra of the Caves only exacerbated the split in Ukrainian society.
