On 3rd March 2024, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ and at the invitation of His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, arrived in Serbia.

Meeting the DECR chairman at the Belgrade airport were Bishop Irinej of Bačka; Bishop Isihije of Valjevo; Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, Vicar Bishop of the Serbian Patriarch; Bishop Damaskin of Mohac, Vicar Bishop of the Bačka Diocese; and Archpriest Vitaly Tarasyev, rector of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Metochion in Belgrade.

On his working visit, Metropolitan Anthony is accompanied by Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, advisor to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, and Deacon Nikolai Vasin, secretary to the DECR chairman.

That same day later, His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia received Metropolitan Anthony and other delegation members on the premises of the Serbian Patriarchate. They were joined by the aforementioned hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church and senior staff members of the Serbian Patriarchate. Metropolitan Anthony conveyed to His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije warm brotherly wishes from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’. Discussed at the meeting were various issues of bilateral and inter-Orthodox relations.
