On 8th April 2021, a group of archeologists and restorers from Russia led by Mr. Dmitrty Yu. Medyantsev, president of the Russian “Stone Center” Association, visited the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus. Conservation professionals from different Russian cities will restore the Arch of Triumph destroyed by terrorists in Palmyra.

Hegumen Arseny (Sokolov), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of the Great Antioch and All the East, met the guests at the Church of St. Ignatius the God-Bearer and told them about the history of the Representation.

At the Representation reception hall the archeologists and restorers shared with Hegumen Arseny their plans of restoring the architectural ensemble of ancient Palmyra. Many stone masterpieces of architecture had been destroyed by militants during armed hostilities in Syria.

The book “Freedom and Responsibility” by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia in the Arabic language was presented to each of the guests.
