Congratulatory address of the Holy Synod to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia on the anniversary of his enthronement.

To His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia

Your Holiness, the merciful Father!

Please accept our cordial congratulations on the blessed anniversary of your placement on of throne of holy First Hierarchs of Russia (order of the Patriarchal enthronement), an event in your life that has defined your further course in serving the Church of Christ and the people of God.

Thirteen years ago, the Lord of Great Gifts Who in wisdom setteth all things aright (Canon of Tone 2 on Monday morning), you have been entrusted with care for the plenitude of the Russian Orthodox Church so that you may tend the flock of God on the mystical pasture driving the wolves away with the staff of your sacred words (Canon).

All these years you have taken an active care of your fellow-concelebrants - archpastors and pastors, giving them wise admonitions and sharing your precious spiritual and worldly experience, delving into problems and carefully treating their needs, calling them to selfless and zealous service, reminding them to warm up the gift of God granted in ordinations, for God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Tim. 1:17).

Strengthened by prayer, you with inspiration preach Christ Crucified and Resurrected to the multimillion flock and earnestly proclaim that the faith in the Saviour and adherence to His holy commandments can change and transform one’s life and fill it with its true meaning and joy.

By your zealous and selfless service, reverential and responsible attitude to sermons, your indefatigable energy and purposefulness you inspire us, your humble co-workers for diligent work in the Vineyard of Christ. Taking care of the construction and restoration of churches and monasteries, of strengthening Orthodox communities, you are doing much so that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified (2 Thes. 3:1) in our Motherland and in the whole world.

In the present, not easy situation, you encourage and admonish the people of God telling them of the saving need to devote themselves, each other and all their being to Christ God, and not to lose the good hope for His mercy, and you yourself give an example of tolerance and humbleness and ardent and unshakable faith.

Again and again congratulating you on the anniversary of your enthronement, we express our sincere gratitude for your wise and sensitive paternal care and testify to our filial love and readiness to make an all-possible contribution to cultivating the field of Christ.

On this solemn day, we wish you, Your Holiness, that you may continue in good health and good spirit to serve the Lord of Great Gifts Who illuminates all with the thrice-radiant, unapproachable and all-powerful light (Canon) of His Divinity, giving you strength in your Patriarchal ministry.

Many good years to you, Your Holiness!

Eis Polla Eti, Despota.
